Department History

The Department of Gagauz Philology was established in 1991, since the formation of Comrat State University. The separation of such a department in the structure of KSU became a reflection of the desire of the Gagauz people to revive and preserve the language and culture, to form the norms of the Gagauz literary language, to introduce the functioning of the Gagauz language in all spheres of human life.

Structuring the curricula of the specialty "Gagauz language and literature" in accordance with the provisions of the Bologna Convention, the department seeks to combine the traditional theoretical soundness of philological education and practicality, which is expressed in the fact that students master disciplines that allow applying theoretical training in various spheres of human life, where Subtle knowledge of the Gagauz language and a broad philological outlook are required.

The department has opened a master's program in the research program with the specialization: "Gagauz language and literature"; according to the professional program with specialization: “Teaching of the Gagauz language and literature in pre-university educational institutions”.

The department conducts continuing education courses for teachers of the Gagauz language and literature of the region.

Teachers of the department develop curricula, create theoretical materials and workshops on disciplines, develop special courses, take part in the development of textbooks on the Gagauz language and literature for educational institutions in the region. In conjunction with students, teachers prepare and conduct meetings with Gagauz writers, poets and scientists, scientific and practical student conferences.

The department takes an active part in the preparation and conduct of international symposia, in the work of regional and international scientific conferences, in the conduct of the Olympics in the Gagauz language. Teachers make presentations at the Chakirov readings, republican seminars for teachers of the Gagauz language and literature.

The department has a scientific circle "Umut".
